Renovation in Tbilisi: Transforming a Soviet-Era Apartment in Vera

Interior design is more than just selecting beautiful colors—it's about total spatial transformation, often involving complex engineering. Today, we share one of our standout projects: a renovation in Vera, in an old Soviet-era building, where we achieved stunning results from the ruins.

The Beginning: Chaos and Illogical Layout

When we first arrived (see Photo 1), we found a typical "Soviet-style" interior: damaged details, a tilted, shaky floor, and a highly impractical layout. The space was so fragmented that there was barely room for a proper bathroom. We decided on a radical move—removing all non-load-bearing walls to free the space.

The Challenge: Structural Reinforcement & Safety / Renovation in Tbilisi

During demolition, we faced a serious issue: the old wooden floor joists were critically damaged. There was a real risk of the upper floor collapsing.

We immediately suspended work and, together with structural engineers, developed a structural reinforcement plan:

1. The old wooden flooring was removed.

2. New I-beam steel joists were installed between the damaged wooden ones.

3. A solid steel truss structure was built, providing the apartment with a brand-new, reliable foundation (see Photos 4 & 5).

4. All openings were reinforced, making the building fully "healthy" and safe.

• Authentic Brick Walls: We chose to partially keep the original brickwork. After restoration, we used strip lighting to turn it into a decorative masterpiece.

• Skyline Lighting: We implemented an innovative "Skyline" system—a LED strip mounted on a tensioned strap between two walls—giving the interior a luxurious and airy feel.

• A New Life: The blend of warm wood textures, industrial metal, and restored brick creates a high-end, cozy atmosphere.
